ResumoA 60-year-old asymptomatic man was referred to our endoscopy unit for management of Barrett's carcinoma. He had an endoscopy in a neighboring hospital for gastric cancer screening and was noted to have Barrett's esophagus. Random biopsy specimens had shown a focus of carcinoma within Barrett's epithelium. A zoom gastroscope Olympus GIF-Q240Z (Olympus Inc, Tokyo, Japan) was used to assess the lesion before endoscopic mucosal resection. The nonmagnified endoscopic observation (A) only showed flat, slightly reddened mucosa (arrow) within a short segment (1 cm circular and 2 cm tongue) of Barrett's epithelium.
