Resumo

Abstract A single crystal of vivianite, Fe 3 (PO 4 ) 2 ·8H 2 O, has been investigated at room temperature using Raman spectroscopy. Using the site symmetry method, we have identified the internal modes of the PO 4 group. For the stretching modes we have observed: ν 1 ( A g )=950.5 cm −1 . ν 3 ( A g )=990.0 cm −1 , ν 3 ( A g )=1052.9 cm −1 and ν 3 ( B g )=1018 cm −1 . The modes involving the motion of the iron atoms and their neighbourhood have also been identified.
