Resumo

A possible relationship exists between pinworm infestation and urinary tract infection in young girls. Of 28 girls between the ages of 18 months and 10 years with urinary tract infection, 16 (57%) had pinworms. One hundred thirteen randomly selected children were examined for pinworms with one early morning cellophane tape test, and six (5.3%) were found to be positive. Fifty children were examined on three consecutive mornings, and five (10%) were found to be positive. Pinworms may be an important etiological factor in urinary tract infection in young girls.
