Ketamine and the oculocardiac reflexDysrhythmia in pediatric strabismus surgery : the role of intravenous atropine In a previously reported series of children,' subjected to ophthalmological surgical procedures under ketamine anaesthesia, 106 (88.3%) out of a total of 120 were for the correction of strabismus and an incidence of 39.6% of bradycardia and 21% of dysrhythmia were found. The results were obtained by manual palpation of the radial pulse, and display on a digital pulse meter; electrocardiographic (ECG) methods were not employed. The present study aims to investigate the oculocardiac reflex (OC-reflex) during extra-ocular muscle surgery in pediatric subjects by recording ECG traces in a further 50 children under ketamine anaesthesia.
