We have shown recently that structural proteins are already extracted with water from cow carotids although they pass into solution only at high ionic strength in the case of striated muscle. A complex called tonoactomyosin has been isolated from these low ionic strength extracts which behaves from some points of view as actomyosin. We investigate here the extractibility of tropomyosin B from cow carotids at low ionic strength and describe some properties of this protein: its crystallization, its electrophoretic and ultracentrifugal behaviours, its combination with ATP. The muscular layer of cow carotids has approximately the same content in tropomyosin B as striated muscle; but its extractibility is very different: a third is extracted at low ionic strength instead of few percents in the case of striated muscle.
