ResumoWe have shown recently that structural proteins are already extracted with water from cow carotids although they pass into solution only at high ionic strength in the case of striated muscle. A complex called tonoactomyosin has been isolated from these low ionic strength extracts which behaves from some points of view as actomyosin. We investigate here the extractibility of tropomyosin B from cow carotids at low ionic strength and describe some properties of this protein: its crystallization, its electrophoretic and ultracentrifugal behaviours, its combination with ATP. The muscular layer of cow carotids has approximately the same content in tropomyosin B as striated muscle; but its extractibility is very different: a third is extracted at low ionic strength instead of few percents in the case of striated muscle.
