Resumo

Abstract The rate of hydrolysis of allantoate (diureidoacetate) was measured as a function of temperature and pH. Similar experiments were performed with urea and N ‐carbamoylglycine (hydantoate) and the results were compared. At pH values below 7 allantoate was converted to ureidoglycolate and urea. The equilibrium position of this conversion was determined as a function of temperature. In alkaline media isocyanate, ammonia, glyoxylate and urea were formed from allantoate. The reaction rate of this conversion was similar to those measured in urea and N ‐carbamoylglycine hydrolyses.
