Abstract In this paper we outline the statistical-thermodynamical expression of the adsorption equilibrium and of the adsorption isotherm in the limit of non-interacting adsorbates (low and medium coverage), for chemisorption processes with partial charge transfer on semiconductor surfaces. As recently shown, chemisorption-induced partial charge injection together with the charge balance of the semiconductor surface and space charge layer causes a strong coverage dependence of the adsorption energy. These factors determine likewise the form of the CT-adsorption isotherm. The relations of CT-adsorption equilibrium to quantumchemical data on surface densities of states are discussed.
