ResumoThe liquid phase oxidation of p-xylene to p-toluic acid by air in the presence of low concentrations of cobalt acetateȁsodium bromide (0.04 M) as a catalyst was investigated at temperatures between 333 and 378 K. Maximum p-toluic acid formation was obtained at a stoichiometric ratio of cobalt acetate to sodium bromide of 1:2.
