ResumoSaccharomyces cerevisiae, Hansenula sp., Dekera sp. and Kluyveromyces marxianus free and immobilized and free Geotrichum sp. have been used in the reduction of ethyl benzoylacetate yielding, in up to 99% ees, ethyl (S)-3-hydroxi-3-phenylpropionate, a suitable intermediate for the production of fluoxetine.
