Swan Oceanographic Laboratories, University of Washington, Friday Harbor, Washington Work here reported was for the most part done in the Zoology Department of the University of California in Berkeley under the direction of the late Professor S. F. Light, without whose careful guidance this work never could have been completed. The writer wishes to acknowledge the gift of radio-active strontium and iodine from the Radiation Laboratory of the University of California in Berkeley. Dr. Olga Hartman of the Allan Hancock Foundation of the University of Southern California very kindly identified the several species of polychaetes used or discussed. To Dr. Arthur W. Martin of the Department of Zoology of the University of Washington the author owes thanks for careful reading of the paper in preliminary form and numerous helpful suggestions in its final preparation.Search for more papers by this author Emery F.
