ResumoThis article documents the production histories of five British feature films produced by Harry Saltzman—The Iron Petticoat, The Entertainer, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, Dr No and The Ipcress File—as well as the US–Italian television series Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion, based on the records of Film Finances Ltd. It explores Saltzman’s working practices as a producer and sheds light on the political economy of the British film industry in the late 1950s and 1960s. It examines Saltzman’s involvement in the British new wave through his partnership with Tony Richardson and John Osborne in Woodfall Films as well as his role in the origins of the James Bond film series. It also demonstrates the crucial, though hitherto unknown, role played by Film Finances in the production of these films.
