Resumopower plant based on steam engines of 200kW, using wood residues from a sawmill located in the city of Porto Alegre do Curumu, Breves, Pará State, which its extractive reserve is authorized by IBAMA (Brazilian Institute forf the Environment and Natural Renewable Resources).Amazon´s communities use diesel generators for electrical power and transport -mainly boats. The use of the biomass from the wood industry as a powers source will bring benefits for the environment (reduction of the greenhouse gas emissions, besides avoid displace of the residues in open sky locations, near water bodies), for the economy (reduces the costs on fuel) and for the community (new jobs and income). Conclusion: The use of biomass as a power source has been shown as a promising and likely of application in different levels. From the thermal power plant of the small sawmill industry in a Amazon Community to the carbon credit market of the big landfills of São Paulo, this resource is viable, efficient and could be a big part of the many solutions for the polemical climate change subject, beyond a big stimulation to the sustainable development, bringing benefits for the society, the environment through technology and innovation.
