ResumoSix novel 2(5H)-furanones, all related to the previously reported 'fimbrolide' 3-butyl-4-bromo-5-(dibromomethylidine)-2(5H-furanone, have been isolated from the red marine alga Delisea elegans (family Bonnemaisoniaceae). Three of the six compounds, characterised by spectroscopic and single crystal X-ray structure analyses, contain unusual poly-brominated cyclobutane functions.
