Tal acontecimento detona, enquanto tema acadêmico, uma avalanche de trocas de acusações de ambos os lados, argumentações que lograram sucesso editorial e cujas duas principais obras estão citadas nas referências bibliográficas. Palavras-chave: Teoria antropológica; Cultura; Utilitarismo. Abstract : The article presents the controversy between Marshall Sahlins and Gananath Obeyesekere regarding the anthropological interpretations about the murder of english sailor Captain Cook by the polineseans by the end of the eighteenth century. Such event is responsible for some sort of academic political and ideological crisis, with both parties involved accusing one another and arguments that achieved editorial success, the two main ones being quoted on the article’s references.
