Resumo

We propose a simple method for estimation of genetic origin, based on ratios between allelic frequencies of 11 widely applied Y-chromosomal STRs. Using this strategy on 488 men of known ethnicity, it correctly discerned Africans from non-Africans in 89% of the cases.
