ResumoLabelled Cd is taken up by C. fusca by adsorption, by diffusion and by energy-dependent transport. Release of Cd from loaded cells is also possible by diffusion. Transport shows saturation kinetics with two components, one of which, however, is possibly transformed into the other by Cd allosterically. With dead cells, adsorption is faster, while energy-dependent transport is not observed. Transport of Cd and Zn inhibit each other mutually. Transport of labelled Cd is strongly enhanced by pretreatment with nonlabelled Cd. No analogous result is obtained in the case of Zn.
