ResumoThe nuclear quadrupole resonance depends primarily on interaction between the nuclear quadrupole moment and the electric field gradients which result from charge distribution in solids. For this reason many aspects of electronic structure in crystalline solids can be explored by this method. A review of applications which were developed between 1956 and 1961 is presented. (J.R.D.)
