Abstract The integrated magnitudes of eleven of the nearest and brightest extra-galactic nebulae have been measured by means of the photoelectric photometer attached to the jo-inch Cooke photographic refractor. The advantage of the photoelectric cell in corn- paring stars and nebulae is pointed out. The resulting magnitudes average brighter than either the photographic or the visual estimates previously used in computing ab- solute luminosities of nebuhe Publication: The Astrophysical Journal Pub Date: June 1936 DOI: 10.1086/143735 Bibcode: 1936ApJ....83..424W full text sources ADS | data products NED (12) Related Materials (1) Reprint: 1936CMWCI.543....1W
