ResumoA companion talk to David L. Vander Muelen's Bibliography and Other History, this essay examines recent questions in the field of textual criticism and its relations to book history, historical linguistics, bibliography, codicology, and literary criticism. It also investigates the place of material philology and the thorny questions of interpretation, the stemma codicum, and the textus receptus as—for better or for worse—essential parts of scholarly editing.
