Resumo

[During an extensive survey of the structure of several aquatic ecosystems in the north of Algeria, a series of microfauna samplings has been carried out from 2005 to 2008 in five reservoirs and one wadi. Thirty-three species of copepod crustaceans have been identified, seven of them being new for Algeria. At this occasion, the list of the freshwater copepods of Algeria, established from a bibliographic review, has been revised and completed. This updated checklist at present includes 93 species, comprising 43 cyclopoids, 14 calanoids, and 36 harpacticoids. The continental waters of Algeria show a predominance of copepod taxa with a wide geographical distribution, but some species are more regional. African are the diaptomids of the genus Metadiaptomus and Tropodiaptomus incognitus Dussart & Gras, 1966, and the cyclopids Afrocyclops gibsoni (Brady, 1904), Cyclops abyssorum mauritaniae Lindberg, 1950, Cryptocyclops linjanticus (Kiefer, 1928), and Thermocyclops oblongatus (G. O. Sars, 1927). The presence of the cyclopid Graeteriella unisetigera (Graeter, 1908) is the first record of this genus for Africa. Comments on the distribution and/or ecological characteristics of the species are given. , During an extensive survey of the structure of several aquatic ecosystems in the north of Algeria, a series of microfauna samplings has been carried out from 2005 to 2008 in five reservoirs and one wadi.
