ResumoExcitation functions for 16O24Mg elastic scattering taken near the Coulomb barrier are used to reduce the number of phase-equivalent discrete ambiguities in the real optical-model potential well depth. For a Woods-Saxon form factor, a nuclear radius of 6 fm and a diffuseness parameter of 0.6 fm the real optical-model potential well depth for 16O24Mg is found to be U = 45 ± 10 MeV. The results are quite insensitive to the value of the absorption term in the optical potential.
