Resumo

Abstract We report spectroscopic investigations of Mn5+ doped in a new host material, namely Y2SiO5 (YSO). The 5 + valence state of manganese was obtained by employing two charge compensation schemes: Ca replacing Y and Al substituting for Si. Near-infrared luminescence peaking at around 1160 nm was observed at room temperature with a lifetime of 69.5 μs. At low temperatures the lifetime increased significantly to 604.5 μs and two electronic origins were resolved at 1161.1 nm( 8613 cm−1) and 1169.7 nm (8562 cm−1). The electron origins are assigned to the orbital components of the spin-forbidden transition 1E→3A2 (Td notation).
