ResumoA longitudinal follow-up of two children of a mother with IgA deficiency and anti-IgA antibodies is reported. Anti-IgA antibodies were transported across the placenta and were demonstrated in the cord serum and in the serum after the first week of life. The elder boy, born at term, remained IgA deficient. The second boy, who was born prematurely, developed a normal IgA system. This discrepancy between the children is discussed.
