From a study of Hyper-Raman scattering, we were able to determine the energies and background dielectric constants which determine the dispersion of ordinary and mixed mode polaritons in PbI2. Using these parameters together with the known biexciton energy, we interprete a broad luminescence band as being due to the radiative decay of biexcitons at low temperatures and due to inelastic collision processes at higher temperatures.
