Resumo

The meanings of the anthropophagical rituals during the centuries that followed the discovery of Brazil by the Portuguese result from the chronistic discourse during 15th century. Portuguese colonizers' effort to recognize, explain and ensure a sense to every part of the new world explain the peculiar enunciative procedures of their travelers' chronicles. They include many contradictory images to represent the Brazilian native uses.
