Overview, Sagittarius D, and Sagittarius E Liszt, Harvey S. Abstract The Sagittarius source complex (sources Sgr A-E) was mapped in the radio continuum at 1616 MHz with various combinations of the VLA B,C, and D configurations, showing the detailed structure of many sources for the first time. This first paper gives an overview of that survey and of the kinematics of neutral gas in the complex. The sources Sgr D and E are discussed in more detail at resolution 13.2 by 23 arcsec (alpha x delta) in the continuum, supplemented with new observations of radio recombination line emission. Sgr D, at l = 1.1 deg and v = -20 kms/ is comprised of an osculating H II region-SNR pair, both about 7 arcmin in diameter. Sgr E at l = -1.4 deg and v = -210 km/s is a cluster of sites of recent star formation.
