ResumoThe case of a 28-year-old man with primary mediastinal choriocarcinoma is reported. It represents the first instance in which a partial remission and augmented survival were achieved in treating this neoplasm, previously shown to be completely refractory to all forms of antitumor therapy. Combination chemotherapy, as employed in the present case, holds promise of even more substantial results, especially if the diagnosis can be made earlier in the course of the disease. Diagnostic and therapeutic modalities currently available are discussed, with particular emphasis on the need for speedy workup and early treatment of this rapidly fatal illness.
