ResumoAbstract A general equation for the concentration overpotential which appears in experimental studies of electrode kinetics has been derived starting with a general rate equation for the electrode reaction expressed in terms of empirical kinetic parameters. The equation thus derived generally includes various kinetic parameters which are to be determined experimentally and only in the “polarographically reversible” case does the equation coincide with the Nernst equation for a concentration cell. On the basis of the equation thus obtained, the method of the rotating disk electrode under a potentiostatic condition is analysed in order to find the condition that allows application of this method in evaluating the kinetic parameters, especially the reaction order. It has been demonstrated that the evaluations are practical in some simple cases.
