Urban Development and Societal Issues

The structure of slave property and the productive activities in Jacareí, between the years of 1777 and 1829, show that there was a substantial growth in the slave population, specially since the introduction of the coffee culture, which substituted food stuffs. The other activities, such as handicrafts and commerce, seen to have played a support role to agriculture.
