ResumoExamines the reaction of American youth to problems created by modernization and technology. The youth movement is viewed as “a coalition of forces consisting of an aware young generation and new forces of technology and international politics and national wealth.” It is suggested that the Woodstock festival illustrates the salient features of the movement, i.e., unity, affirmation of life views, drug use, and recognition of and failure to accept contradictions. It is postulated that a harmony emphasizing “constructive national dedication to human dignity and welfare,” human values and needs, and the “quality of life” can be created.
