ResumoChronic microelectrodes were implanted in the hand-arm area of the precentral motor cortex of monkeys to obtain long-term recordings from individual neurons. Eleven of the 12 implanted electrodes provided single unit activity during some period of the 223 days of recording in one animal. In another monkey all 12 electrodes provided single unit data during some period of the 141 days of implantation. The same single unit could be recorded for periods of 1 to 29 days.
