Resumo

The voltammetric reduction behaviors of 19 chlorinated biphenyls with chlorines on one ring have been examined in dimethylsulfoxide. Interrupted-sweep voltammetry was used to obtain the reduction potentials which were employed in controlled-potential coulometry and electrolysis. Gas chromatographic product analysis of the electrolysis solutions was used to examine the reduction pathways for the polychlorinated biphenyls. The polychlorinated biphenyl reduction pathways were complex in comparison to the reduction pathways previously determined for the chlorinated benzenes.
