The roughness parameter varied from z0 = 0.2 cm for smooth arctic ice to z0 = 10 cm for rough ice in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The thickness of the boundary layer under smooth arctic ice is estimated to 1 meter and for the ice in the Gulf of St. Lawrence to 0.6 meters or less. References Campbell, W.
