ResumoFar from being written off as some analysts predicted after the end of the Cold War, NATO has risen to the challenges posed by the altered security landscape adapting internal structures and working towards wider coopera tion and incorporation with existing and new partner. Sights are set on establishing an integrated security structure taking into account the concerns of Russia as well as those seeking actively to join the Alliance. As Germany's Permanent Representative on the Atlantic Council, Ambassador Von Richthofen presents a German perspective on these changes highlighting in particular the current debate on a follow –on rows for IFOR and the ways in which NATO is ensuring its survival as a viable organization. He concludes that a key element will always be the Transatlantic relationship, which is set to continue to the benefit of all those working to consolidate European security.
