ResumoA process is reported for crystal growth of barium metaborate from solution in NaCl using an immersion-seeded, slow cooling technique. Fifteen-day growth runs routinely produce crystals yielding inclusion-free fabricated specimens 50 × 40 × 10 mm3 in size. A heat-pipe based furnace system was used in establishing a required high degree of temperature uniformity and stability. Initial surface dissolution was necessary to achieve flaw-free growth off a seed.
