The Database System GONIAT will provide not only determinations on the base of morphological criteria but also reports on occurrence, duration, literature and phylogenetic relationships of every taxon of the generic and species level. It is developed with dBASE IV. It consists of the six separate databases BOUND, LIT, LOC, TAX, MORPHA and MORPHB, which are linked by relational techniques. BOUND includes a set of biostratigraphical boundaries, which represent the time planes expressed in terms of biostratigraphical zonation as well as in absolute dating as actually assumed. The databases LIT and LOC include complete information on literature and localities, respectively. The databases TAX, MORPHA and MORPHB include the taxonomic data as well as the whole set of morphological descriptors (more than 200 in each MORPH) of all significant characters which are important for the identification of the taxa. MORPHA is restricted to general (or adult) characters, MORPHB includes early and middle ontogenetic stages of the forms in which they can be recognized. GONIAT is designed to serve as a tool for investigations on the systematics and the evolution of the diversity of the ammonoids and their paleogeographic distribution during Devonian until Permian. Le système de bases de données GONIAT est un instrument pour faciliter des recherches et des déterminations sur la base de critères morphologiques. En outre, le système permet des comparaisons sur les gisements, la longévité, la littérature et les relations phylogénétiques de chaque taxon de la classe, des genres et des espèces. GONIAT est developpé avec dBASE IV. Il est essentiellement composé de six bases indépendantes—BOUND, LIT, LOC, TAX, MORPHA et MORPHB—qui sont unies par des techniques relationnelles. BOUND contient les limites biostratigraphiques qui représentent les surfaces-temps ce qui rend possible les subdivisions biostratigraphiques; leur âge absolu est indiqué. LIT et LOC donnent des informations complètes sur la littérature et sur les localités. TAX, MORPHA et MORPHB contiennent non seulement des données taxonomiques mais aussi des "descripteurs" (plus de 200 chaque MORPH) de toutes les caractéristiques, utiles pour la détermination des taxons. MORPHA est limité aux caractères adultes; MORPHB traite dans les stades ontogénétiques lorsqu'ils ont pu être reconnus. GONIAT a pour objet de faciliter les recherches sur la systématique et sur le developpement de la diversité des ammonoïdés et sur leur répartition du Dévonien au Permien. Das im Aufbau befindliche Wissensbasierte System (WBS) GONIAT ermöglicht Bestimmungen auf der Basis morphologischer Kriterien; außerdem erstellt es Expertisen über Vorkommen, Lebensdauer, Literatur und phylogenetische Beziehungen jedes Taxons der Gattungs- und Artebene. Das WBS GONIAT wird in dBASE IV angelegt. Es besteht hauptsächlich aus den sechs unabhängigen Datenbanken BOUND, LIT, LOC, TAX, MORPHA und MORPHB, die relational miteinander verbunden sind. BOUND enthält die biostratigraphischen Grenzen, die die Zeitebenen darstellen und die biostratigraphische Zonierung ermöglichen; sie werden in absoluter Datierung angegeben. Die Datenbanken LIT und LOC informieren erschöpfend über die Literatur und die einzelnen Lokalitäten. Die Datenbanken TAX, MORPHA und MORPHB enthalten sowohl die taxonomischen Daten als auch die morphologische Descriptoren (mehr als 200 in jeder MORPH) aller Merkmale, die für die Bestimmung jedes Taxons wichtig sind. MORPHA ist beschränkt auf die adulten Merkmale, MORPHB enthält frühere ontogenetischen Stadien der Formen, in denen diese erkannt werden können. Das WBS GONIAT hat das Ziel, Untersuchungen zur Systematik und Entwicklung der Diversität der Ammonoideen und ihrer paläogeographischen Verbreitung vom Devon bis zum Perm durchzuführen.
