Resumo

Abstract Trance was accidentally induced by the author who had no formal training in hypnosis, but had read the literature extensively. Following the patient's favorable response to the initial experience, hypnosis was used intentionally. A major interest expressed by this young woman was to grow up. Her request was incorporated into the formulation of a complex, metaphoric story about the seasons of the year. The story was designed to create an opportunity for the patient to grow in a way that would be personally satisfying and to indirectly circumvent restrictive conscious sets. Follow-up at three months revealed improvements had been maintained.
