Resumo

This paper investigates, by means of various cultural archaeologies, the relative investments of three songs of significance in the ongoing construction of Australian national identity. They are respectively 'God Save the Queen' (the ex-anthem), 'Advance Australia Fair' (the official anthem) and 'Waltzing Matilda' (a quasi-anthem, with no acknowledged official status but often described as the 'national song').
