An e x p e r i m e n t was des igned to i n v e s t i g a t e the i n f l u e n c e s o f con t inuous i n f u s i o n o f c a t e c h o l a m i n e on f a t and g lucose me tabo l i sm , n i t r o g e n b a l a n c e , and the amount o f t r i g l y c e r i d e ( T G ) in the l i v e r in SDra t s . The ra ts were nou r i shed by p a r e n t e r a l n u t r i t i o n over 5 days, and were d i v i d e d i n t o 6 groups on the bases o f d i f f e r e n t types o f n o n p r o t e i n c a l o r i e ( N P C ) and o f w i t h or w i t h o u t an i n f u s i o n o f c a t e c h o l a m i n e ; namely , G group r e c e i ved g lucose as a so le NPC and no c a t e c h o l a m i n e , F group r e c e i v e d a h a l f o f NPC w i t h g l ucose , the r e m a i n i n g h a l f w i t h l i p i d emu ls ion and no c a t e c h o l a mine, Epi-G and Ep i -F groups rece i ved 1 mcrg /kg /min o f e p i n e p h r i n e mixed in the same s o l u t i o n as t h a t o f G a n d / o r F groups. Nor-G and Nor-F groups r e c e i v e d 1 mcrg /kg /min o f n o r e p i n e p h r i n e in the s i m i l a r manner. Each group was c o n s i s t e d o f 5 r a t s , and each r a t r e c e i v e d the same t o t a l number o f c a l o r i e s ( 2 5 2 C a l / k g / d a y ) and the same amount o f n i t r o g e n ( l .49 g / k g / d a y ) .
