ResumoThe following case report demonstrates the occasional necessity for staged thoracic surgical intervention in the management of a clinical condition commonly associated with high mortality: overwhelming pseudomonas pulmonary infection and septic shock.Intervention included the use of emergency wide-open drainage of gangrene of the lung and empyema, followed by sequential, interval lobectomy.
