ResumoABSTRACT Essure, a new female sterilization method approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, offers women a new option for controlling fertility. The technique is done without an incision, is hormone‐free, and can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. There are few or no side effects. It is important for providers to understand how the device works, appropriate candidates for use, and requirements for preplacement and postplacement management.
