Resumo

A case of congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation of the lung (CAM) is presented with ultrasound and pathological findings. CAM is a rare condition which has been divided into Types I, II and III by Stocker et al (1977). The case presented appears to be the fourth instance reported by ultrasound and the first in which a Type III lesion was identified. A 28-year-old primigravida was admitted to Princess Mary's RAF Hospital, Halton, in October 1982 for investigation of long-standing PUO and anorexia, subsequently shown to be due to acute pyelonephritis. She had a known history of medullary sponge kidney and labile hypertension. Initial ultrasound at 21 weeks' gestation demonstrated hydramnios with a normal placenta.
