ResumoWe describe an efficient strategy for designing high-performance fast-photochromic molecules with increased photosensitivity to solar UVA radiation. The photosensitivity of [2.2]paracyclophane-bridged imidazole dimers can be readily enhanced through appropriate design of the phenyl rings attached to the imidazole rings. The diversity of the molecular design and the ease of synthesis make this class of photochromic molecules highly attractive for high-performance ophthalmic plastic lenses.
