ResumoQuasiclassical trajectories have been used to investigate ion–molecule complex formation and dissociation in model systems. A model ion-induced-dipole potential was used to represent the long-range attractive forces and an exponential was used for the repulsive part of the potential. The emphasis is on Cl−+Cl2 ⇄ [Cl3−]*, with some studies of the influence of ion mass on capture and lifetime. Capture cross sections as a function of complex lifetime were computed.
