ResumoBombardment of leaf disks with DNA-coated tungsten particles, followed by marker selection, yields tobacco plants that are uniformly transformed in each of the 500 to 10 000 copies of the plastid genome per cell. The ability to transform plastids will facilitate the study of plastid-gene regulation and the application of genetic engineering to crop improvement.
