Resumo

Cavities were made through the buccal and lingual cortical plates or through only the buccal plate of mandibles in six adult mongrel dogs. The cavities were made with a trephine and were of the following diameters—5, 6 and 8 mm. The dogs were sacrificed after 8, 12 and 16 weeks. The combined radiographical-histological study revealed that the following three factors influence bony regeneration in dog mandibles: The size of the experimental cavity. The removal or not of both cortical plates. The elevation or not of the periosterum.
