ResumoThe objective of the histological study of the Philander opossum scrotal skin and tunica vaginalis was to provide some additional ínformation for the understanding of the testicular thermoregulatory mechanisms in marsupiais.Scrotal skin is thin and hairy, with shallow grooves on its surface. The dermal-epidermal junction is smooth and the dermis shows a few sweat glands and sebaceous glands associated with hair follieles. The tunica vaginalis consists of two layers: tunica vaginalis visceralis and parietalis. The larter shows irregular areas of black pigmentation formed by the association ofmelanocytes; such findings is also described for the other species ofmarsupials ..
