SUMMARY: The objective of this study was to verify the Municipal Health Services nurses' conception about education in health, looking for an understanding about the way that educational practices are developed in those services, as well as the involvement and the community's participation in these activities. The data were collected through interviews with nurses that works more than two years at that services in a city of the State of Paraná, Brazil. It was possible to find three topics from data: the characterisation of the Municipal Health Service Unit, the organisation of the work in the education conception in health and the educational activities. We identified that educational actions are accomplished with the health team co-operation. However nurses calls for itself the responsibility of planning and evaluation but, health education is understood in a restricted way with focus in the prevention of diseases, longing for change of behaviour of the population, bringing with that a dissatisfaction in the results on daily practice. The results also point that transformations in the educational actions developed in the Health Services are necessary shimmering that the education becomes one of the instruments of emancipation of the subjects.
