Resumo

In skeletal muscle of vitamin B6-deprived mice, total phosphorylase activity decreased to 36% of the control value. The decrement was similar for muscle phosphorylase a of the C57, but not of the I strain, which exhibits negligible amounts (2%) of the active form. Muscle glycogen was depleted in deprived mice ofboth strains, but only after prolonged feeding. Liver phosphorylase did decrease and liver glycogen increased, but only in severely deprived I strain mice. The stability of liver phosphorylase in vitamin B6-deficient mice suggests the possibility that pyridoxal 5-phosphate is not a cofactor of the enzyme. Liver glucose 6-phosphatase was not affected by the dietary deficiency in either strain of mice.
