Resumo

Synergistic effects of various pyridine bases on the extractabilities of Co(II)-acetylacetonate (CoA2) into benzene have been studied. The expected variation of the distribution ratio with the pH of the aqueous phase was deduced mathematically and compared with the experimental results. The results show that the synergism is due to the formation and preferential extraction of the 1:2 adduct, CoA2B2, and the synergistic effect decreases with the following order: γ-picoline> β-picoline> 2,4-lutidine> 2,6-lutidine> α-picoline The partition coefficient of CoA2 and apparent formation constants of the adducts with the above mentioned bases were also estimated.
